I have an appointment with a plastic surgeon whom doesn't actually specializes in FTM top surgeries but has experience in that field. According to his website he accepts my insurance however he ask that I bring in a referral letter from my primary doctor which I already have. This is only the consultation appointment do you think he will ask me for a letter from a therapist/mental health? I'm having trouble with them because two of them are talking about a year time frame which doesn't make any sense what so ever for the simple fact that I've been on hormones for 6 years and I have already changed my name and legally changed my gender. I am still searching around for a mental health letter God forbid of anything it is best I have backup correct? I would appreciate any advice. I am from New Jersey.

Regardless of the surgeon's requirement, it's very likely that your insurance will require a letter from a mental health pro.

Some therapists will insist on a specific time frame of "therapy." Mine did not. I talked with her for one 3 hour session and got my letter for hormones and top surgery.

This list might help:
