Hey guys,

I'm new to the forum and I'm hoping this will help me out some. I've been looking into Metoidioplasty, and so far Dr. Bowers or Dr. Mcguinn (spelling) are my top choices. The reason for this is because they take insurance, well at least Dr. Bowers does. unfortunately in Florida, Health Insurance companies are close minded and refuse to cover anything gender related. I did have a question for guys who have had metoidioplasty with vaginectomy (spelling again..). How is the orgasm with the vagina completely removed? As much as i dont like to have a vagina, I fear that orgasms will be sacrificed, for a lack of better words.

Also, If anyone knows of Florida health insurance that covers anything related to gender or sex reassignment, please let me know!!!

I also can't speak from direct experience about vaginectomy and orgasm, but what I often hear from those who have had this surgery is that their response is better post-op, due to decrease of dysphoria, and from sensation being somewhat "redirected" (in terms of brain response) to the penis.

I'll cast a net to get more direct experience answers for you.

I am also in Fla facing the same issue with insurance.
I do have a possible solution for myself with the costs, I have a 401k that is large enough to work with if i can word the hardship well enough.

What i would like to start with is finding a Dr. office to start correspondence with in Florida that is experienced in this surgery. Once I find that, I will start working on the rest.
So any recommendations for a fellow Floridian would be awesome.

There are a couple of options in Florida for metoidioplasty surgeons:

Dr Greenwald did my top surgery, which was actually a after breast cancer reconstruction (which is how I got it covered under my insurance)
I had to have a latissimus dorsi flap done along side the mastectomy.
I wonder if I can get a return visitors discount for a bottom surgery appointment ...hmmm

Please report back if you have a meta consult with Dr. Greenwald. I've found it difficult to find lower surgery journals from guys who have gone to him recently.

Another possibility... Dr. Mendoza, also in Tampa, offers metoidioplasty. He takes insurance for "some surgeries," not sure if metoidioplasty is on that list though.
