I've been reading that it's a good idea to find a local doctor as a way to keep the cost of surgery down.

Anyone know of a great doctor for DI within about 150 miles of Detroit?

There's Dr. Kuzon at MHS Gender Services in Ann Arbor.

Access to gender-related surgical procedures for patients is made through the University of Michigan Health System Comprehensive Gender Services Program.

Also, Dr. Kenneth Wolf in W. Bloomfield, and Drs. Dalton and Ganos, in Detroit and Dearborn respectively.
