Dr. Robert Sigal, MD is a board-certified plastic surgeon with decades of surgical experience who performs FTM Top Surgery at Austin-Weston, The Center for Cosmetic Surgery in Reston, Virginia. He serves transgender men and nonbinary people throughout Northern Virginia, Washington, D.C., and the surrounding region.

Dr. Sigal's background encompasses both reconstructive and aesthetic plastic surgery. He trained in general surgery at Harbor/UCLA, where he served as Chief Resident, and completed his plastic and reconstructive surgery residency at the University of Pennsylvania after spending two years there in cancer research.

FTM Top Surgery with Dr. Sigal

Dr. Sigal offers five techniques for FTM Top Surgery:

• Double Incision
• Keyhole
• Peri-Areolar
• Inverted-T
• Buttonhole

Having several techniques available provides options for people with different chest sizes, skin elasticity and surgical priorities. The choice of procedure takes into account the amount of breast tissue and excess skin, nipple position, scar preferences and the importance of retaining nipple sensation.

FTM Body Contouring

Dr. Sigal also performs body masculinization for those who want to address areas beyond the chest. Liposuction and body contouring can be used to reduce curves and create a straighter, more masculine shape through the torso.

Body contouring may be considered on its own or in conjunction with FTM Top Surgery.

Top Surgery Cost

FTM Top Surgery with Dr. Sigal starts at $12,050, based on pricing from September 2025.

The fee includes:

• Surgeon's fee
• Anesthesia
• Operating room
• Recovery garments
• Pre-operative visits
• Post-operative visits

Exact pricing is provided after consultation and development of the surgical plan.

Payment can be made by cash, check or credit card, and CareCredit financing is available. Insurance, Medicaid and Medicare are not accepted for Top Surgery.

Consultation & Wait Times

Dr. Sigal offers both in-person and virtual consultations. The consultation fee is $100 and is applied toward the cost of surgery.

Current scheduling estimates are:

• Consultation: 3-6 weeks
• Surgery: 4-8 weeks after consultation

Dr. Sigal performs surgery at Austin-Weston's private surgical facility in Reston, Virginia. He is also affiliated with Inova Health System.

FTM Surgery Requirements

Depending on medical history, medical clearance may be required before surgery. Other requirements include:

• Smoking cessation for at least one month before surgery
• Not currently pregnant
• Meeting applicable WPATH-based surgical criteria
• One or two referral letters from a qualified mental health professional, as required

Referral documentation includes a psychosocial assessment and diagnosis, clinical rationale for surgery, documentation of informed consent and confirmation that the referring professional is available to coordinate with the surgical team.
