I'm currently under 18 and hoping that I can get my surgery under 18. My current plan is a bit ambitious, but I was wondering if it was at all possible. My parents are very unsupportive of my transition and I'm considering emancipation as an option in the next couple of months. I was wondering if I could get my surgery at seventeen if I was emancipated, had a sign off from a mental health professional, had the funds, but haven't started HRT or testosterone or anything of that sort (I live in the USA). Thanks!

Good question. (Sorry to hear that you have unsupportive parents!) I can see this working, especially with the mental health signoff. I think it would depend on the surgeon. Do you have a surgeon in mind already?

I don't have a surgeon in mind yet... I do plan on researching that soon. I'm hoping to find one on the West Coast, preferably farther north, so I don't have to fly. Do you know of any who will operate on emancipated minors?

Check with Dr. Mosser. While he has a 18+ policy, there may be wiggle room there for someone who is emancipated. (After all, emancipation means you are legally an adult.)
