Questions about DHT cream or gel come up often when talking about metoidioplasty. While there are no studies pertaining DHT use and transgender men, several surgeons recommend DHT cream or gel to maximize dick growth and there are plenty of anecdotal reports about its positive effects.

For more detailed information about DHT, please see this article that I wrote in 2009: DHT For Transgender Men

I know the availability of DHT cream in North America is very limited. Do you know of its availability in Europe? I am planning to have surgical consults abroad and wonder if it would be possible to obtain and fill a script for DHT while there.

I'm not 100% certain but it seems like Andractim is what all the Euro trans guys get too. I haven't heard of anyone outside North America getting a custom DHT compound; they always seem to get Andractim. (I know guys in the UK who could not get their prescriptions filled.)

Andractim is the only DHT compound I have ever used and furthermore I would recommend against having products compounded at other pharmacies.

While researching testosterone I learned that various compounds are often far less effective than the Pfizer product, due to testosterone being difficult to properly synthesize.

Although many other medicines are easier to compound, I still don't like to take chances on things that important to me, and all of my hormones are going to be the tried-and-tested ones, not other ones which are more likely to be made in small batches by people with less experience making that particular chemical.

I'm interested in getting DHT, and have read all about it being controlled in US. Seems risky to order without an RX. I asked my doc (GP who works with a lot of trans patients) if he subscribes it and he wasn't familiar with its usage. I didn't push that day but am wondering if there's any advice for educating him and asking again. Any experiences educating and asking your docs? I don't have a date for meta but would like to do DHT this year for hopefully meta in the next 15-18 months depending on surgeon.

Hi Mason, my doctor had no familiarity with DHT but he wrote me a prescription based on the info I gave him. I provided him with anecdotal reports of DHT working for trans guys, along with references to journal articles about the safety of DHT. He wrote the prescription on the spot.

Joshua, thanks so much. I think my doc would do the same if I came prepared with print offs and/or a list of articles. Any chance you have published this bibliography of journal articles on your blog?

Hey Joshua! As an update, I was able to get a script for DHT and to get one of the last orders from All Saints. It seems they have a supply problem currently and aren't sure what the future holds. My order is in the mail, they said. I am now preparing myself for the regimen and wanted to see if you could help me understand the math around my dosing, as well as what I may want to look out for in terms of my regular T dose while I'm doing the DHT cycle.

First question though- I noticed on your blog you were doing a Round 2, maybe a couple years ago. Did that yield any new results for you? Just curious.

So since this is the 2.5% gel, it seems I'd need to quadruple my dose compared to what I've read about the 10% dosing. If you were doing 60mg a day at 10%, my equivalent dose would be 240mg a day? I'm not sure if they will include the measuring stick thing with it so I'll need to find a way to measure that out. Also plan to get lidocaine based on a thread in the comments on one of your posts.

Two 80g tubes of Andractim come with the order so I think if it's 240mg a day that's like 666 days worth that I have product for. That's a lot!

Any thoughts are appreciated on this, basically my doc was willing to write it for me. He hasn't prescribed it before but I brought him your post and the research you mentioned, and he was like ok, it's not gonna hurt you, so here you go. That said I didn't discuss with him how to change my T dose to accommodate this testosterone addition. On top of that, I'm moving to Portland Oregon next week, and I won't start this until I'm there. I can ask my doc for my T level number so I know it and then get my levels checked maybe after 4 weeks on DHT? To see how it is affecting me. I think I run a little low anyway in the normal range. How did you alter your dosing of T when on DHT? I usually take 200mg every two weeks, standard dosing.
